A Little Bit About Us
We are a diverse group of people who love to play samba, mainly from around Ely, Cambridgeshire. We play some traditional samba rhythms and also some songs written by local sambistas. The music we play is Brazilian but also draws influence from all over the world.
Ely Samba Band was set up in 2005 by community musician and workshop leader Tom the Pom http://www.tomthepom.com/ to involve the local community in making beautiful Samba rhythms.
Previous leaders include the talented Emma Hanid from Arco Iris community samba band http://www.arcoiris.org.uk/ and the lovely Katie Mallard formerly of Fruity Clave Samba Band http://www.fruityclave.co.uk/ and now of Honley Samba Band http://www.honleysamba.com/ .
The band was initially funded by ADeC (Arts Development East Cambs) but now funds itself.
Performing at local events such as the Ely Eel Parade, Ely Olympic Celebrations, local Scout events, Burwell Carnival, Ely Aquafest, we are guaranteed to liven up any occasion.
Bring the atmosphere of Brazilian carnival to your event! Contact us to find out more about who we are and what we can offer you.
The band now meets every Tuesday and welcomes new members, anyone aged 10+. No experience is necessary - we provide all instruments. Ring or email us for details, or just turn up.
